Need objective opinion about the mix of the original song
Hi there!
I would really appreciate it If some of you guys and girls could take the time and post your opinion about the mix of the song posted below. That would mean a lot to me. Some “fresh” ears are always welcome, when working on mixes... Thanx!
things are sounding a little robotic to me...maybe work on some adding some human elements to your MIDI. the elements dont sound like their style if that makes sense; like, the kick is almost a rock or metal sounding kick and you have a jazzy hip hip vibe going on.
The piano screams in my ears in the 2500-3000 hz range. When you take that down it is way more pleasant to listen to.
The piano has a very closed-up mic sound and no room at all. That, coupled with a not-super-tight performance, is not complementing your composition. You can mask the performance part by putting the piano in a room, sort of speaking.
Obviously there is no right and wrong in mixing, but if you want to sound like other songs in your genre then compare your songs and your sound to something you like so you have something to aim for. The volume of the instruments especially is something you could pay attention to here.
Performance-wise the instruments and the musicians are not tight. You can either practice to play more accurately, do more quantization, or take care of the notes that stand out as being out of time individually. Right now it sounds to me as if you have quantized some but not all and overall it just isn't coherent.
And you are putting your work out there and kudos to for you for doing that! It is the way forward ❤️
I would mix it with the idea that the piano is king and balance everything to that(its the only element that evolves a lot like a vocal). Feels and sounds like everyone is trying to win. Els the mix is okay, a bit hot for my taste. hope this helps :)
Some of you might remember me from the early days of the SoundGym community or from collaborating on the Hero articles feature. I'm excited (and a bit nervous) to share something with you all.
Music has always been a huge part of my life. I’d even say it saved me.
Growing up in a rather challenging environment, music became a refuge for me. It was where I could unravel and express emotions and experiences that words alone couldn’t capture.
Over the years, that feeling drove me to dive deeper into music, eventually leading me here to be part of the SoundGym team and help shape the amazing tools we use daily!
But as time went on, the challenges I faced left a mark I couldn’t ignore.
I found myself wanting to understand more about the inner journey behind those moments and how my past shaped who I am today and influenced my vision for the future.
This journey led me to explore not only my own experiences but also the broader human adventure.
I've recently started an Instagram channel where I share my thoughts and insights regularly (and I’ve got some cool surprises in the works too!).
Your support would mean the world to me, so if you're up for following along and seeing what's next, I'd be thrilled to have you there.
Hey, Yohai! After all the SG & TG Heroes you've convinced (for good) to open our doors to both communities, it was time for you to allow everyone to learn a little more from you, wasn't it? 😬 Although I'm not a regular user of any social media, I'll be following your Instagram channel to find out what are you 'cooking' there... I truly hope you can show more of your house, because that stairway to your living-room is quite impressive, according to this pic...😜
I wish you the best at this project. Good luck!
PS. I completely forgot to confirm the arrival of my Championship T-Shirt: sorry about that!
