What is A Synthesizer? A Beginner's Guide to Audio Synthesis
Synthesizers are everywhere in music. Electronic genres are booming, and synths are all over pop and hip-hop. Even in more traditionally guitar-based genres such as indie and metal, many artists frequently use these instruments. If you’re starting your journey as a music producer, you will need to get to grips with synths.

In this article, we will start with the basics so that you can understand what synths are and how they work.

I really like that guitar sound that comes in and the whole part in general from 00:30 until 0:47, it's a nice build up! =)

What microphone did you use to record the vocals with? Did you use any analogue gear for the vocals? Did you guys record it yourselves?

Nice song and production! Some things about the mix that I notice (in the order that I noticed them):

- I like the guitars!
- The bass is a bit boomy.
- Kick could use more body/oomph, and less attack/click.
- Snare could use more top and and sparkle.
- The guitar panning round 1:30 is too much for me.
- While I couldn't have done a better job on the vocals, they to sound a bit too upfront detached from the rest.

Hi everyone,
Any tips on the Dr. Compressor exercise? I really thought I was improving in my hearing and application of compression but this thing is making me second guess. Is the compression ratio the only thing adjusted between the two options? And if so, what would you say is your focus when trying to hear the difference?

Thanks!
Jimmy

compressed sound will be something like:
- main snare and kick sounds will loose attack, bite, sharpness and they will feel a bit more distant and lost into the overall sound
- room ambient and reververances will increase in volumen, specially on the same instruments that had lost the bite.
- secondary instruments will feel increased in volumen and closeness, sometimes even their volume will suffer a quick raise after the main instrument hit. So pay attention in volumen fluctuation of this secondary elements like hats.
- the whole sound will feel more even, more diluted and blurred. We lose the easy aural separation between sounds that we can feel when is not compressed
