Hey folks! I've been training my ear here everyday and it's been so hard to get score on Dr. Compressor!!! Is there any tips to hear them!? I'm so aware it's important to train regularly I just wanted to know how people hear them!
I just finished Dr. Compressor right before I read your post 😁
What I do is listen for real loudness vs apparent loudness. Real loudness is when the volume actually goes up, apparent loudness is when the timbre of the instrument is like if were being hit harder, but the volume really is not raising.
Also, as mentioned above by Marcus, listen for all the parts of the instument. Things that you would normally not hear, because they are softer, will become more audible with compression.
A big thing to listen for, to me, is the snare. On uncompressed drums the snare is very forward and in your face, whereas compression makes it recede quite a bit, and the tonality is often completely different,
Hi friends! I out a new song out today. The vibe is psychedelic desert house. Thanks for listening, and I hope you enjoy it! The Youtube video has visuals that I made in Touchdesigner.
Yes, I like it a lot! Great... I'll go and see how the video program works. I also really liked making video montages, at the time I used Premier Pro. But this seems very interesting! Thanks :)
yesterday I was super sleep deprived and managed to hit 68 points at like 2am, basically asleep, with eyes closed half the time. Today I'm well rested and somehow stuck at around 10 points hahaha. Surely that must mean that it's best to mix when tired right ? :P
Now I mixed myself into exhaustion, then played SpacePan and it definitely felt easier tired! :D I think I'll leave to bed now, even though I almost get past Lio's score.
Haha @Lukas Veleminsky funny things happen musically when we're about to fall asleep. Some of the best songs in the world were written with a shut-eye.
I know I wrote half my thesis half asleep at 4 am because when I'm exhausted my brain is too tired to be anxious so I'm finally free to actually do the task that's been making me anxious all day haha !I'm sure it's the same with some sound stuff, you just feel more relaxed so you don't question stuff as much and it helps you follow your instinct and do better sometimes !
