The Three Dangerous Words: “One More Take?”
The three most dangerous words ever said in in the studio: “One more take?”

When you’re 90% there, do you go “Again” and chase perfection… or “Keep it” and protect the vibe?

Why It Matters: Knowing when to stop is as powerful as knowing how to improve.

Team Again or Team Keep It? And why?

Well, in my case, when I'm writing a poem (yeah, a poem), I always keep the original text in order to compare with the 'finished' one. Tbh sometimes I change so many thing to make it perfect that it feels like the whole emotion is gone. So I just go back to the original one and start over again, but trying to keep the emotion untouched

Good topic!
I think every case and every song is different. Sometimes you get the perfect take after just two attempts, and sometimes you need much more than that... It depends a lot on the quality of the session musician who is recording!

hi everyone :)) i made another mix, im hoping to get any feedback on it - anything will help me. i havent been able to finish a full track like this in a moment, and in this one i tried to very subtly use loops to texture my mix, as well as utilise automation more, especially on the main synth and in the bass. let me know if anything sounds off to you :))

Hey there, nice track! It has a certain wistfulness and vintage vibe.

I have a few comments for arrangement and mix:
1. Most everything is changing on the downbeat, and I think you could add some groove to your track by changing this up so that some elements are landing on offbeats, or even coming in on the 2, for example.
2. Your supersaw could probably benefit from a LPF, in my opinion, and I think that you could automate the cutoff to give it some movement.
3. It sounds to me like your mix could use some space, so you could consider adding a little bit of reverb and delay on some of the tracks. I especially thought that you could use a gated reverb on the snare, or even some dub delay sometimes and that it would really suit the vibe.
4. I don't hear much low end. If you aren't using a sub on your bass, I think that could help a lot. If you are, I think that you can turn it up some.

This is not a genre that I listen to much, so bear in mind that some of what I am saying may speak more to my own biases than what actually suits the track, so take it all with a grain of salt and decide if any of what I've said makes sense for your vision! Best of luck with your track, and feel free to post revisions if you'd like some follow up thoughts.
Congrats @Fer Marcial for winning the Golden Ears Award!

SoundGym's lifetime option should be 2.5x the cost of it's yearly option (instead of the current 3.33x) and it's yearly option should be half it's current cost ($75 instead of $150).

I wish I had started on SoundGym MUCH sooner but the cost was prohibitive and it's not something you can truly appreciate the value of until you start working hard at it.

I use SoundGym every single day and plan to for the remainder of my subscription - but when it's over, I won't renew. I believe there is extreme value in ear training but, if after a year of serious ear training I am still not working with music often enough for THAT to be my ear training, then I can never justify a renewal.

Just saying, I would like to have permanent access to the features here but $500 is unreasonable and, for many, $150 a year is unreasonable. I convinced myself to do 1 year and I'm glad I did but that's where it will have to end.

If the lifelong cost was ~$200 and the annual cost was ~$75 - I would have lifetime access and SG would have an extra $50. Win-win for me personally but I suspect they would also get MANY more subs as well. I could've convinced myself to try it out for $75 a decade ago but their current pricing system had me wait until basically my entire life was settled (which, sadly, for most is also the time when they've completely given up on music).

My 2c, do with it what you will...

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Good luck to everyone on their journeys and with their finances c:

But if they reduce the prices now then people who bought the offers earlier than this may rage.. The pricing they came up with at that time is a bit over I agree, and it should have been what you proposed, in my opinion..

Just that there may be ethical concerns regarding changing the price right now and people may not be happy to hear that prices of subscriptions have decreased, especially those who buy such subscriptions just before such a price change..

Easy enough to deal with I would think. Give anyone who purchased at the full price a badge as a SoundGym Lifer or something and give anyone who purchased in the past few months the option to get the badge or a refund for the difference ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
