Hey to all music producers. I just finished, my first serious production and music composition. it's a Heartbreak Ballad, recorded in my little home studio. I hope to get all the critical feedback from You. Thanks for everyone to checking the track.
Hi Łukasz, this song is very nice! I am not a fan of this genre normally, but I listened to the end of the song because it is good. I only have two things to say about it:
1. The natural feel of this song is really good. I do not agree with quantising the drums, they sound way better with this slightly imperfect timing. In this case, the emotion of the song is served much better by the loose feel. Thank you for keeping it natural!
2. Even though the loose feel is great throughout the rest of the song, the timing of the guitar part which starts at 1:03 is not good. It ruins the flow of the song because it sounds out of time with everything else. Elements in your song can all have loose timing, as long as they are all basically in time with each other! Therefore, I suggest that you re-record that guitar part. Or you could spend hours and hours trying to manually quantise it to perfection while still trying to sound human... when you could just spend 10 minutes re-recording it :)
One more thing after listening to this song a second time, Matthias could be right about the piano needing more low frequencies.
Thank You so much Dylan! You help me tremendously! Yes, You have a right with this guitar it's out of tempo, I recorded it again and add a little of delay and added octave lower piano chords. Thank You for Your feedback and appreciation!
Hay Lukas... congrats... I loved the song (listened full and realy enjoyed it). For me, the most important things are there: A really cool song and pretty nice vocals but the production, in my opinion, could be better to get all the juice out the song. Overall instrumental arrangement could be more energetic and mellow. The song is heart break, right ;)
The song is real good man... give it another try with the same vocals and just a nylon guitar and a GOOD midi string library or synth. Keep in minimalisic but super good. Remember that less is more. Ed Sheeran rocks with only a guitar and his voice. If you decide to give this a second go, be sure to tag me.
Hey, colleagues, hello! I've just been wondering what the fuck is going on at the hundredth level of workout. Share who has already reached that high, or just some high level. Because I've reached level 15 in PanGirl, for example, and I can tell quite accurately where the sound is now (for example, in my head I say “Oh, it's 0.65” and press 0.68), and the band is quite narrow. Of course, I'm wrong, so I haven't gone any further. But I believe that I have already reached almost the limit of human hearing, which is to determine exactly where the sound is. Nevertheless, I am now at level 15. Who are those monsters who have reached level 100, and what is it like?) 😀
I've gone a bit further by the numbers, but my SoundGym experience remains the same - always on the edge of getting it wrong but apparently slowly getting a little more accurate. When it comes to mixing, I am gaining confidence in hearing the sound spectrum more accurately and recognizing what the tools - reverb, compression, distortion - are really doing. My recommendation would be to keep going, accept slow progress, and enjoy the ever more subtle changes.
From time to time, we shine the spotlight on a SoundGym member by reviewing one of their releases for our Music Spot feature. This time around we are taking an in-depth look at @Andreas Kaufmann latest offering. We reviewed his Closing The Loop EP back in 2020, and it’s interesting to see how his sound has developed with the release of newer singles, such as Get On With It.
EQ Knight improvement proposal: it would be nice, if you could see both the curves, after you place your choice. I'm happy to be right, just - I would like to check, that I recognized the heard difference well too. I think, similar improvements could be done also in other practises. How realistic is to expect, that these feedback suggestions could be processed / realized? Maybe the question is - how static / dynamic the tools are? Are there upgrades processed in time? (It's great and extremely helpful anyhow - just want to know, if I should write any other ideas, as it might occur during practising...) Thanks :-)
