Depends what you do... Ableton is now a classic but if you run a recording studio, it sure isn’t in your first top 3 DAWs... but if you produce EDM at home or on the go, it’s definitely worth it to have it in your arsenal. Which seem to be the magazine’s lean, since they rated Fruity Loops as #1 .
Yes, I think the issue with this is that selection by votes reflects public adoption and usage of a DAW rather than superiority. Someone pointed out that the top DAWs in the list are the ones that people can crack hahaha
Sounds decent... I use Logic Pro X as the main DAW on my Mac set up, Pro tools is great but you have to go with all its outboard gear, I never tried Studio One but looks great, and even though I used Cubase & Nuendo for 10 years on PC, I personnaly don't like it's work flow much, which I think is also something to consider while choosing your DAW
Oh Logic is the one I haven't tried, but I do find DAWs are useful for different tasks and I regard them all as different tools. For example, I like Ableton for doing remixes, Reason for creative songwriting, Studio One for mixing and mastering, and FL studio for making beats and quick and easy music videos with their newest update. It's good that there's plenty of options out there. Everyone is different so there will never be a single DAW that's the best and one & only... I really wanna try Logic though...
@John Melendez like you said, they are useful for different tasks. I like Ableton as a controller for backingtracks and loops when playing in live situations. Also for quickly recording creative ideas in the session view.
I have used Cubase since its SX version and I really like the way they implemented midi, and also the way they handle audio edits in the "direct offline processing". I wish they would enable the possibilty to not install all kinds of stuff I don't use, to make it more responsive.
But during the course I just finished I chose to learn to work with ProTools because I saw it was mainly used in all bigger studios where we had workshops. I don't like the subscription kind of licenses and the software feels like a dinosaur but for recording and some of the postproduction tasks I'm starting to like it 😅 It's also great to be able to open up projects that have been recorded in bigger studios (by me or someone else) and refine some of the comping done there. Also the import and export options for audio but also other session data are very advanced and extremely useful. 👌
