As a musician for many years, I am a total novice in mixing. Thanks to SoundGym, I think I can hear frequencies, compression, etc. However, I lack the method to make a mix in real conditions.

Do you know of any resources (videos or websites) that explain in detail the different steps to make a mix (gain staging, panning, eq, comp, etc.) and if possible in a context of recording real instruments? (No value judgement towards electro music but it is not at all the environment in which I work)

Some examples where I get stuck:

- I'm practicing with the multitracks provided on the Mixdown Training Room, I'm starting my mix but I'm not sure how to organize myself, I'm kind of following the moment as I listen. I feel like I'm lost.

- I also train with multitracks that I got from recording with my band in a pro studio but it's the same I have trouble understanding where to start and where to end.

Thanks for your answers !

At first try the video section on this site. You will find a lot of really good videos about any topic related to recording and mixing.

If you are looking for theoretical explanation of microfons, effects, mixing. psychoacoustics, .... look here https://www.youtube.com/@SonicVisionTV1/featured

More practical stuff you can find here

Thanks, I've watched a lot of the videos on the site but haven't found anything that shows a mix from start to finish. I'll look at the channels you recommended, thanks! What I'm looking for is a video that explains each step (first listen, gain staging, mixing drums, mixing bass, etc.)

Hi Paul, I was in a similar situation. Here's some resources I used. Mixing with Mike.com, Musician on a Mission.com, Pure Mix.com and Mix with the masters.com. (Not aff links, obviously :))

@Paul A They are paid subs, but they have some free resources too. I thought they were good. To be honest I should probably re-join a few of them, because they're probably better now. Time is in short supply at the moment though :)

The site we frequently use for Mixdown Training has a great start to finish walk through of a mix, if you haven't checked that out yet - https://cambridge-mt.com/ms/
